Life is hard.
In fact, life is impossible. The alienation and loneliness we all feel is, at its root, an alienation from our Creator. Separated from the God for whom we were made, we try so desperately to fill the void and heal the wound.
Unfortunately, our attempts to save ourselves only make matters worse. We hurt the people around us, we ravage the earth, and we engage in self-destructive and community-destroying behavior the Bible refers to as “sin.”
The good news of Christianity is that, to our utter surprise…
…God has acted in the death and resurrection of Jesus to draw us back into intimate friendship with Himself, beginning a project in our lives to heal and restore us into the people we were always meant to be.
We know this sounds way too good to be true. And that’s part of the reason why we’re here.
Refuge Church exists to be a safe place where people from all walks of life can explore whether the message of Jesus is in fact too good to be true, or whether it is too good and too true at the same time. Just as the 1st century Jewish tax collector named Zacchaeus once hid up in a tree, watching Jesus of Nazareth from a distance, we invite you to come and listen and check us out, even if it’s from a distance, even if you’re not sure if Jesus is real.
But we should warn you…
We’re pretty sure Jesus is not just something on a map, waiting to be explored, waiting to be pursued. He’s a living person, actively pursuing you. Jesus wants to grab a hold of your mind and heart. He wants to change you from the inside out. He wants to bring you life and joy and purpose and freedom.
We’re excited to see that happen in your life. We hope you are too.
